Ole must remain as boss – Fletch

Manchester Evening News - - UNITED -

FORMER United midfielder Darren Fletcher has insisted that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the right man to lead the club.

United sit ninth in the Premier League table after 14 games this season, on 18 points.

With United eight points behind fourth-place Chelsea, questions have been asked of Solskjaer.

The departure of Mauricio Pochettino from Tottenham has also increased speculation that he could replace Solskjaer at the helm. However, Fletcher has reaffirmed the belief that Solskjaer is the man for the job and must be given time to transform what he previously been an under-performing squad.

“It has been an interesting season. I think everyone at the club expected it to be that,” Fletcher said.

“I think there is a change in the culture behind the scenes, which is hard for fans to realise. I feel this season is more about auditioning for the players than the manager.

“I think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the right man for the job. It’s an audition for the players on whether they are going to be a part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United.

“That’s the challenge which has been laid out to them. The club will want to sign more players and I’m sure they will, so it’s a case of who wants to be here in the longterm.”
