Animal crackers

Manchester Evening News - - TODAY’S TV -

IF THERE’S one thing we all love even more than Christmas, it is clips on the internet of animals doing weird and wonderful things – be they guilty dogs, karate cats, singing parrots, sneezing pandas, whatever.

So, combine a whole load of playful pets and everyone’s favourite holiday season and you’re onto a winner. However, as this is watching telly and not surfing the web, the Channel 5 bods clearly thought there has to be a hook to bring it all together, something a bit more celeby and interactive than just showing us a load of short clips from t’internet.

They’ve recruited animalloving famous faces to add some festive fun and inject a bit of holiday hilarity into the proceedings as they give their own take on things – AKA some people off the telly wearing Christmas jumpers watching all these clips, and telling us what happens in them.

It’s an eclectic bunch, most of whom frankly you’d think could do better than this – Jo Brand, Michelle Visage, Susan Calman, Nina Wadia and Shane Richie. And while their sizzling discourse might not add much to the proceedings, the clips themselves are very cute and highly entertaining.

And the programme makers also take the opportunity to hand out awards to their favourite ‘Pet Stars’ featured in the show, including a talkative and talented parrot, a tractor driving dog, and a daschund that can balance things on his head.

Nothing says Christmas like a bunch of celebs narrating clips of animals behaving bizarrely. Jo Brand, right, and, from top left, Nina Wadia, Shane Richie and Michelle Visage join in the fun
