Climate-demo five released
FIVE people arrested after a climatechange protest blocked a city centre street at rush-hour have been released on bail.
Two men and three women were arrested after the Extinction Rebellion campaign group blocked traffic from passing on Great Ancoats Street. They were held on suspicion of obstructing the highways and public nuisance offences. Protesters said they were raising awareness of the illegal levels of air pollution in the city centre. They also staged the protest to call on the council to cancel plans to create a car park on the former Central Retail Park site, also on Great Ancoats Street.
