Eric catches boss’s eye

ERIC Garcia says he has been working hard in training to catch the eye of Pep Guardiola.

With John Stones joining Aymeric Laporte on the sidelines and makeshift defender Fernandinho suspended, the youngster was handed a start in City’s final Champions League group game against Dinamo Zagreb.

“As a child you dream playing in the Champions League and representing this team so I’m really happy,” he said.

“This season I trained really hard every session to gain confidence with the manager.”

Garcia was perhaps caught out as Dinamo’s Dani Olmo produced a wonderful opener for the hosts, but he later admitted he was familiar with the reported City target’s threat.

“I know a lot about Dani Olmo because I play with him for Spain,” Garcia explained.

“They were really good as a team, we know it was going to be a really tough game because they needed a win to qualify.”
