Pictured: Woman found dead at home
A WOMAN who was found dead at a house has been named locally as Nesta Bryden.
The 59-year-old was discovered at her home on Whiteley Place in Altrincham on Monday night.
A 71-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder has been released under investigation pending further enquiries, Greater Manchester Police said.
Neighbours say they were ‘shocked’ to hear of Ms Bryden’s death, and described the small cul-de-sac as ‘exceptionally quiet.’
Whiteley Place leads off Gladstone Road and the A56 Manchester Road towards Broadheath.
One resident said: “I’ve lived here for 40 years and Nesta lived here for about 12 or so years. I would often say hello to her and I only spoke to her on Saturday. It’s so sad.”
Police were called by paramedics shortly before 8pm on Monday to reports that a woman had been found dead at her house.
Det Chief Insp Jonathan Kelly said officers were ‘keeping an open mind and exploring all lines of enquiry.’ He said: “I would like to express my deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased woman and our thoughts are with them at this very sad and difficult time.
“Our team are in the very early stages of their investigation and it is important that we keep an open mind and explore all lines of enquiry at this point. If anyone was around the area of Whiteley Place at around 7.30pm to 8pm, and has any information that they believe could be relevant to this investigation, then we urge them to get in touch with us without hesitation.”
A post-mortem examination to determine a cause of death is due to be held. Anyone with information can call police on 0161 856 7747, referencing incident 2795 of December 9, 2019.
