AN investigation is under way after two women were taken to hospital following a double stabbing.

Emergency services were called to Atherton Road in Hindley Green, Wigan, just after 10.30am yesterday.

Two women were taken to hospital, according to the North West Ambulance Service.

Police say both of the women taken to hospital following the incident were in their 20s.

One suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital for treatment.

The other woman’s injuries were originally described as ‘serious’ but GMP later said they were minor and she was discharged.

It is believed the incident took place at a house. Photos and videos posted on social media pictured two air ambulances landing at the scene.

Atherton Road was closed in both directions between Leigh Road and Westleigh Lane and a police investigation scene put in place.

GMP officers confirmed they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the stabbings and said the incident was not being treated as a terrorrelated crime.
