Cabbie seriously hurt as car smashes into taxi
A TAXI driver suffered serious injuries following a two-car smash.
Police said the cabbie, aged in his 40s, was hit by another motorist who then fled the scene in Preston Road, Standish, Wigan.
The driver, who worked for Chorleybased
Coopers Taxis, had dropped a customer off in Wigan just minutes before the crash happened.
A spokesman for the company said he had suffered a broken leg, hip and back and remained in hospital.
Following the crash, the road was closed in both directions at the junction with Pepper Lane.
An image shared by Greater Manchester Police’s traffic officers showed the damage to the car, which was virtually destroyed. In a tweet posted, officers promised to catch the driver responsible.
It read: “This motorist was hit by a driver who then fled the scene. Officers will make sure the offending driver answers for this horrific crash.”
