Cab­bie se­ri­ously hurt as car smashes into taxi

A TAXI driver suf­fered se­ri­ous in­juries fol­low­ing a two-car smash.

Po­lice said the cab­bie, aged in his 40s, was hit by an­other mo­torist who then fled the scene in Pre­ston Road, Stan­dish, Wi­gan.

The driver, who worked for Chor­ley­based

Coop­ers Taxis, had dropped a cus­tomer off in Wi­gan just min­utes be­fore the crash hap­pened.

A spokesman for the com­pany said he had suf­fered a bro­ken leg, hip and back and re­mained in hospi­tal.

Fol­low­ing the crash, the road was closed in both direc­tions at the junc­tion with Pep­per Lane.

An im­age shared by Greater Manch­ester Po­lice’s traf­fic of­fi­cers showed the dam­age to the car, which was vir­tu­ally de­stroyed. In a tweet posted, of­fi­cers promised to catch the driver re­spon­si­ble.

It read: “This mo­torist was hit by a driver who then fled the scene. Of­fi­cers will make sure the of­fend­ing driver an­swers for this hor­rific crash.”
