JAILERS’ CARS PETROL BOMBED

VEHICLES TORCHED IN ‘TARGETED’ ATTACK IN PRISON CAR PARK

TWO prison guards’ cars were ‘petrol-bombed’ outside a jail in what’s been described as a ‘targeted attack.’

It’s thought two men on a motorbike rode into the staff car park at Forest Bank in Salford and torched the vehicles.

A source told the M.E.N. a ‘petrol bomb’ was thrown at a Nissan Micra, which was badly damaged, with the flames spreading to a Volvo parked in the next bay.

The car park is protected by a barrier, but accessible to the members of the public on foot.

The source said: “It’s a targeted attack. Sometime the cons will turn round and say ‘Right, your car’s getting blown up,’ if you don’t give them what they want.

“Now they’re saying ‘This is what you get.’

“There’s a barrier on the staff car park, but it’s quite accessible.

“Somehow, these two guys on a motorbike have got on the car park and thrown a petrol bomb at the car.

“It’s totally melted the first car. It had all the owner’s possessions in it, like his mobile phone, because obviously you’re not allowed to take them inside.

“It’s still parked there now – the damage is undescribable.”

A prison spokesman said the arson attack was being investigated by police.

They added: “We can confirm an incident occurred.

“While a police investigation is ongoing it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

The arson attack comes 12 months after floral wreaths understood to be in the shape of guns and grenades were found addressed to managers at the privately-run prison in Agecroft.

Following the discovery police launched an harassment investigation.

Speaking at the time, prison bosses said the incident was being taken ‘extremely seriously.’

In October a gang armed with shotguns attempted to kidnap someone outside Forest Bank – but got the wrong man.

Four men, two armed with guns, held up a taxi as it left the jail with an ex-prisoner in it.

But after peering inside the private hire vehicle they left.
