Restaurant named one of best in Britain
THREE MANCHESTER RESTAURANTS FEATURE IN HARDEN’S 2020
THE Harden’s Best Restaurants 2020 guide has named several Manchester restaurants as among the best in the UK. Michelin-starred Mana in Ancoats entered at number three in this year’s guide, topping off a huge year for the new restaurant.
It’s joined in the top 20 by Adam Reid at The French – the restaurant inside the Midland hotel came in at 19th place.
Delivering a Manchester hat-trick in the top 100 was Restaurant MCR, which has taken over from the former Manchester House under head chef Aiden Byrne.
It comes after a disappointing showing in 2019, where Manchester had no entries in the top 100 following the closures of Rabbit In The Moon and Manchester House.
Another north west restaurant made the top spot in this year’s guide, with Birkenhead’s Fraiche placed at number one.
Also representing the region in the top 100 were Moor Hall, L’Enclume, Hipping Hall, Lake Road Kitchen, Roski and Northcote.
Edinburgh and Birmingham also clinched three top 100 places with local restaurants, but neither city placed as highly as Manchester.
41 restaurants in the top 100 were in London.
Co-founder Peter Harden said: “This was a good year for the north west’s restaurant scene which continues to consolidate its reputation for some of the highest quality restaurants in the country.
“Manchester has often vied with Edinburgh for the position as Britain’s biggest restaurant scene outside London, but equally has often lost out in estimations of quality rather than quantity.
“Hopefully the opening of Mana, and its winning of numerous awards and accolades – including the number three position in our Harden’s 100 winners – plus the city’s other successes this year are symbolic of Manchester finally starting to live up to its great potential as a globally interesting restaurant city.”
