Foot­ball agent guilty over bribes

A FOOT­BALL agent from Greater Manch­ester and the former as­sis­tant head coach of Barns­ley FC have been found guilty of ac­cept­ing and pay­ing bribes.

The pay­ments were made to fa­cil­i­tate the trans­fer of play­ers at the South York­shire club.

Agents Giuseppe Pagliara (pic­tured), 64, of Higher

Croft, White­field, Bury, and Dax Price, 48, of Upchurch,

Kent, were found guilty at South­wark Crown Court of one count of pay­ing and fa­cil­i­tat­ing a bribe and one count of of­fer­ing a bribe. Thomas Wright, 53, of Dark Lane, Barns­ley, was found guilty of one count of ac­cept­ing a bribe and one count of re­quest­ing a bribe. Wright had pre­vi­ously worked at Old­ham Ath­letic as an as­sis­tant coach.

The jury had de­lib­er­ated for just un­der 32 hours be­fore re­turn­ing their ma­jor­ity ver­dicts on Wright and Price. Pagliara was con­victed last week.

The de­fen­dants will be sen­tenced later.
