Couple flee as fire rips through home
A MAN and a woman were forced to flee for their lives after a fire ripped through their home.
The first floor of the pair’s home was destroyed during the blaze which broke out shortly before 6am yesterday.
The blaze broke out in an upstairs front bedroom at the property in Saddleback Road, Wigan, before tearing through the rest of the property.
The couple, aged in their 40s, managed to escape before firefighters arrived minutes later.
The pair were taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Crews managed to douse the flames, but the upstairs of the home was gutted.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “It was a fire involving the bedroom of a detached house. Crew used two hose reels and fire breathing apparatus.”
