Child, 13, ‘punched in face at match try­ing to pro­tect dad’

THIS is the man po­lice want to speak af­ter a 13-year-old child was as­saulted dur­ing a rugby match at Old Traf­ford.

Po­lice say the at­tack hap­pened fol­low­ing the Su­per League Grand Fi­nal on Oc­to­ber 12, which saw St He­lens de­feat Sal­ford Red Devils.

Dur­ing the match, the sus­pect was seen throw­ing items at other peo­ple watch­ing the game, a post on GMP Traf­ford’s Face­book page said.

The sus­pect then en­tered into an ar­gu­ment with the child vic­tim’s dad, po­lice said.

Af­ter the child at­tempted to in­ter­vene, they were left bleed­ing af­ter be­ing punched in the face.

Po­lice have now re­leased a fresh ap­peal, ask­ing any­one with in­for­ma­tion about the as­sault, or the male pic­tured, to come for­ward.

A GMP spokesper­son said: “Ap­peal for help iden­ti­fy­ing a sus­pected of­fender re­lat­ing to an as­sault on a child.

“The of­fence oc­curred at 19:50 hrs.

“The child vic­tim, who is 13 years old, see­ing his dad in dis­tress, at­tempts to defuse the sit­u­a­tion and is punched to the face caus­ing bleed­ing and swelling.”
