£1.4m road junction plans
PLANS to improve a major junction by creating new traffic lanes, cycleways and pedestrian crossings will cost £1.4 million.
Smithy Brook Road, in Wigan, will be the point where the A49 and M58 link roads meet connecting the eastern and western parts of the borough.
But it needs the improvements to provide commuters with better access to Wigan town centre and the M6 and M58 motorways. Both roads will also alleviate congestion on busy routes, leading to quicker journey times.
Coun David Molyneux, leader of Wigan council, said: “When the link roads are complete, motorists will benefit from highquality road infrastructure, which helps us to position Wigan borough as a great place to live, work, invest and visit.”
