Dino delight as the Latics move clear of drop zone

- By DAVE CROWTHER-GREEN

OLDHAM head coach Dino Maamria praised the attitude of his squad following their 2-1 win over Crawley.

Second-half goals from David Wheater and Mohamed Maouche saw Latics come from behind at Boundary Park after Lewis Young had put the visitors in front.

“The most important thing was to win, it was almost like a cup game and one we could not afford not to win,” said the Tunisian.

“We’d won four games all season and I highlighted that point before the game.

“At half-time I got into one or two, we needed to play with more purpose and I thought they showed a fantastic attitude in the second half.”

Oldham started the better of the two sides and should have been in front on 10 minutes when Desire Segbe Azankpo rounded the goalkeeper but was unable to find a finish.

The visitors then took the lead against the run of play moments later as Young received the ball just inside the area and fired low across goal past Zeus De La Paz.

Latics came out fighting in the second half and quickly found an equaliser through Wheater who rose highest at a corner and nodded the ball over the line on 49 minutes.

And they completed their comeback 10 minutes later when substitute Scott Wilson found Maouche in the area who then slotted the ball past goalkeeper Glenn Morris.

“My emphasis was all about winning today and we managed to do that. I thought we started ok first half, but to concede that sloppy goal was really disappointing,” Maamria added.

“I told them that’s what you’re capable of when you play on the front foot and when you commit - you get your rewards.

“We’ve been ok, but I don’t want to be ok, we’re so much better than that and we need to make sure we show that every game.”

The result sees Oldham up to 19th in League Two, seven points clear of the relegation zone.
