Officers rush to street after ‘loud bang’ heard

A LARGE-SCALE police operation launched after a ‘loud bang’ was down to a firework, the M.E.N. understand­s.

A shattered door window at a house on Cloughfiel­d Avenue, Ordsall, Salford, was examined by forensics officers following the incident just after midnight yesterday.

Around four police cars rushed to the scene after people reported hearing a ‘loud bang.’ A cordon was put in place as an investigat­ion was launched. The Tactical Aid Unit and a Specialist Search Unit were also scrambled to the scene as a fingertip search began. Robert Hall Street, a residentia­l road nearby, was cordoned off. Police tape was removed at around 3pm. Greater Manchester Police have released few details about the incident.

A force spokeswoma­n said the incident was not believed to be a shooting, but did not reveal any more informatio­n, including how the house is believed to have been damaged. The M.E.N. has been told by a police source a firework went off. Nobody is believed to have been hurt.

No arrests have been made. A witness, who asked not to be named, said: “At around midnight, give or take 30 minutes, we were at a house party on the estate.

“We were smoking out back and heard a loud bang.

“Shortly after, we were returning home, but Robert Hall Street was blocked from both directions with police cars with their lights flashing, there were at least four cars.

“It was too dark to see what activity was taking place.” Another neighbour at the scene said he heard a ‘loud bang’ and saw a ‘bright light.’

A GMP spokeswoma­n said: “Shortly after 12.05am on Thursday, December 26, police were called to reports of a loud noise on Cloughfiel­d Avenue, Salford.

Officers attended and initial enquiries indicated that damage was caused to a property.

“There are no reported injuries. “It’s not believed to be a shooting and no arrests have been made.” Police confirmed that enquiries are ongoing.
