OLDHAM head coach Dino Maamria believes his side are getting better every game.

Goals from Desire Segbe Azankpo and Mohamed Sylla saw Latics take all three points at the Globe Arena and record back-to-back league wins for the first time this season.

“I’m absolutely delighted for our fans, they gave me goosebumps actually to see the potential of the football club when those fans get behind us,” said Maamria. “It’s always a tough game to come up here, they’ve been decent at home, have a new manager in and they had a right go, but we controlled it.”

Oldham saw plenty of possession in the opening stages and almost went ahead on 16 minutes when Jonny Smith picked up the ball just inside the area but fired straight at goalkeeper Mark Halstead.

They continued to push for an opener and were rewarded on the half-hour as Filipe Morais’ effort was fumbled by Halstead straight into the path of Azankpo, who then bundled the ball over the line.

The hosts were level two minutes into the second half when A-Jay Leitch-Smith played in Mendes-Gomes who fired low past Zeus De La Paz. However, Latics got back in front on 75 minutes as Smith saw his shot blocked to the feet of Sylla, who sidefooted it past Halstead for his first goal of the season and move his side nine points clear of the relegation zone.

“After the first 15 when we started passing the ball I thought we were totally in control. We scored a great goal, but I was really disappointed that we conceded after two minutes into the second half,” Maamria added.

“It’s something we’ve been building since I came in, I’ve been talking about finishing the game strongly and managing those pressure moments.

“And I think we’ve been growing every game and getting better.”
