Boss: Rash rising like Ron used to

- By SAMUEL LUCKHURST

OLE Gunnar Solskjaer likened Marcus Rashford’s headed goal against Newcastle to the aerial prowess of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Rashford netted his 15th of the season but his first headed goal of the campaign.

Ronaldo has become renowned for his aerial presence. The Juventus forward scored a widely-heralded header at Sampdoria last week and Solskjaer compared Rashford to Ronaldo again.

“Marcus’ today was a fantastic goal,” Solskjaer said. “He’s been working on it. He’s a physical specimen, he looks after himself, he’s working hard in the gym and when you’ve got that spring it’s about courage and getting up there.

“I remember a boy I used to play with who used to head it quite well when he was close to the goal, and we compare him quite often.

“So that’s another string to his bow, Marcus, that Cristiano used to get at that age as well.”

Mason Greenwood claimed his eighth United goal and first from the start in a league game to put them ahead against Newcastle. The 18-year-old completed 90 minutes and has been involved in 15 league games already in his first full season.

“He’s learning,” Solskjaer said of Greenwood. “He’s growing as a human being as well, he’ll grow more and more. And we’re not going see the best of Mason for a couple for years.

“I think Marcus is now, 22, he sprung on the scene at the same age as Mason, more or less, and you see more maturity in his game and Mason needs to learn how to head it as well!”
