Neighbours ‘scared’ as cops swoop on house
RESIDENTS were left in shock when armed police surrounded a semi-detached house.
A number of police vehicles were seen on Wallbank Drive in Whitworth, near Rochdale, yesterday afternoon.
Unconfirmed reports suggested someone was threatened with a weapon at one of the addresses.
Pictures from the scene showed police, some of them armed, surrounding a house at the end of Wallbank Drive at its junction with Eastgate.
When the M.E.N. went to the scene, the cordon had been taken down and police had left.
No-one was in the house that had been the focus of police attention. A downstairs window had been smashed.
One resident, who declined to be named, admitted the visit of so many armed police had been ‘pretty scary’.
“There were a lot of them. It’s not something you really expect,” she said.
Another resident said police made regular visits to the house and that the couple who live there often argued.
She described how she saw the woman and her mother leave the property as police arrived.
Officers then searched the property, she said.
The M.E.N. has asked Lancashire Police for a comment.
A force spokesman told our colleagues at Lancashire Live: “Police have responded to an incident in that area.”
