Pereira’s instant recognition after pass to Martial

Manchester Evening News - - SPORT -

ANDREAS Pereira says he knew Anthony Martial would score the opening goal at Burnley as soon as he released his pass to the in-form striker. Martial moved into double figures for the season in United’s 2-0 win at Turf Moor, with Marcus Rashford scoring the second in the 94th minute.

“I just remember pressing the leftback, and I got the ball,” said Pereira. “When I got it, I just seen Anthony straight away and when I seen the pass

I knew it was a goal when he touched the ball.

“Anthony is in great form and Marcus as well. If I turn my body and play the ball into them, I know it’s a good chance or a goal so I’m really happy for them.” Pereira also had praise for his defensive team-mates for allowing the attackers to impress against difficult opponents.

He explained: “We knew it was going to be a difficult game, a difficult stadium here, and it’s important after victory against Newcastle we wanted to keep going and it was a good test and we did well. We know they play very direct and in the air. It’s very tough to play here, but we showed great mentality and when we had the ball we put it down and we played well.

“It was important, the back line and midfield did really well. They were really calm and controlled the game for us which made it easier up-front.”
