PETER Kay has been pictured for the first time in eight months – hours after criticising a Channel 5 documentary about his life as being ‘misleading.’

The Bolton funnyman had tweeted frustration about Peter Kay: In His Own Words on Sunday afternoon – but he didn’t seem to let it bother him too much as he attended Nativity! The Musi- cal in London.

Wearing a black coat, black hat and a big smile on his face, Peter can be seen happily posing for the camera following a break from the limelight.

The show’s director, Debbie Isitt, posted the photo to her Twitter page with the caption: “So lovely to see the brilliant comic genius Peter Kay and his lovely family @nativityuk tonight for our final show! What a lovely surprise for us all!”

Peter, 46, has not been seen out publicly for eight months and before then he surprised fans at a special screening of Car Share in Blackpool in April 2018. On Sunday afternoon his official Twitter account criticised the title of the Channel 5 programme, telling fans it doesn’t feature any new interviews or input from Peter.

The tweet reads: “Very flattering of Channel 5 to commission the programme going out tonight, but just to let people known that ‘Peter Kay: In His Own Words’ has an incredibly misleading title, as it doesn’t feature any new interviews with Peter and all the footage is completely historic.

“The title also gives the impression that Peter has been involved in the making of this documentary, which he hasn’t. At all.”

The documentary, which aired on Sunday at 9pm, featured interviews with Peter’s friends and colleagues Pete Waterman, Jenny Powell and Bobby Davro and charts the comic’s rise to fame to performing arena shows.

It also included footage from some of his classic comedy routines along with clips from his hit shows Phoenix Nights and Car Share.

The last time something was tweeted from Peter’s account was October 11, informing fans that a Blackpool date had been added for screenings of Phoenix Nights in aid of Cancer Research.
