NEW YEAR TRIPLE TRAGEDY
● TWO ARE KILLED IN CAR CRASHES – WITH FOUR OTHERS LEFT SERIOUSLY INJURED ● AND WOMAN IN ‘DRUG-DRIVE’ ARREST AFTER BIKER DIES
A MAN died and four others were seriously injured in a New Year’s Day crash.
The collision happened on Yew Tree Road in Fallowfield, close to the Platt Lane junction, in the early hours of yesterday when a Skoda Octavia – believed to be a taxi – collided with a black Mercedes C43 AMG at around 3.30am.
The 59-year-old driver of the Skoda died in hospital after the crash.
His next of kin have been informed and they were being supported by specialist officers.
Five other men were taken to hospital. Police say three of those suffered serious injuries.
A fourth was in a critical condition and was fighting for his life.
Inspector Danny Byrne, of Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, is appealing for witnesses to come forward.
He said: “This is a tragic incident in which one man died and five others were injured on what should have been a night of celebration – our thoughts are with them and their loved ones as our investigation continues.
“I would like to use this opportunity to ask anyone with information or dash-cam footage to contact us as soon as possible.
“We are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who saw the black Mercedes in the area prior to this collision.”
