World Cup duo to hand Di­a­mond new year boost

SALE Sharks are set to be boosted by the early ar­rival of World Cup win­ner Lood de Jager.

The lock un­der­went surgery on his shoul­der af­ter suf­fer­ing an in­jury in the World Cup fi­nal win over Eng­land in Ja­pan.

It was set to rule the 27-year-old new sign­ing out un­til April.

How­ever, he has made a rapid re­cov­ery and will ar­rive in Eng­land from South Africa - where he went un­der the knife - next week ahead of a pos­si­ble Gal­lagher Premier­ship de­but by the end of the month.

And di­rec­tor of rugby Steve Di­a­mond has re­vealed an­other new sign­ing Mark Wil­son - who is on loan from New­cas­tle Fal­cons - will be avail­able by the end of the month hav­ing al­most re­cov­ered from the knee in­jury which has de­layed the start of his sea­son.

“Lood will ar­rive in the coun­try on Jan­uary 10 and will be avail­able to play around Jan­uary 25 when we travel to Ex­eter and Mark Wil­son will also be ready by then,” Di­a­mond told Rug­byPass.

“So, we have one more Premier­ship round of games to go with­out them and then we will be close to full strength.”

Josh Beau­mont, how­ever, is still ex­pected to be out for the rest of the cam­paign af­ter un­der­go­ing re­con­struc­tion surgery on his knee. Di­a­mond also re­vealed he will rest Eng­land ace Tom Curry for the two Heineken Cup games this month.
