World Cup duo to hand Diamond new year boost
SALE Sharks are set to be boosted by the early arrival of World Cup winner Lood de Jager.
The lock underwent surgery on his shoulder after suffering an injury in the World Cup final win over England in Japan.
It was set to rule the 27-year-old new signing out until April.
However, he has made a rapid recovery and will arrive in England from South Africa - where he went under the knife - next week ahead of a possible Gallagher Premiership debut by the end of the month.
And director of rugby Steve Diamond has revealed another new signing Mark Wilson - who is on loan from Newcastle Falcons - will be available by the end of the month having almost recovered from the knee injury which has delayed the start of his season.
“Lood will arrive in the country on January 10 and will be available to play around January 25 when we travel to Exeter and Mark Wilson will also be ready by then,” Diamond told RugbyPass.
“So, we have one more Premiership round of games to go without them and then we will be close to full strength.”
Josh Beaumont, however, is still expected to be out for the rest of the campaign after undergoing reconstruction surgery on his knee. Diamond also revealed he will rest England ace Tom Curry for the two Heineken Cup games this month.
