HS2 ‘will cost more’

THOSE in charge of the HS2 project have been ac­cused of “fid­dling the fig­ures” by the deputy chair­man of the project’s re­view panel.

It was ini­tially ex­pected to cost £50.1bn. Lat­est es­ti­mates by HS2 Ltd put the price at £88bn, but for­mer Labour trans­port spokesman Lord Berke­ley says in­de­pen­dent anal­y­sis ar­rives at £107.92bn.

A Depart­ment for Trans­port spokesman said: “Lord Berke­ley’s re­port rep­re­sents his per­sonal view.”
