Piergianni joins Latics on loan
OLDHAM have signed defender Carl Piergianni on loan from Salford City until the end of the season.
The 27-year-old joins the club after struggling for game time at the Peninsula Stadium having featured just twice as a substitute in their last 15 games.
His last start for the Ammies came against Forest Green Rovers on September 28. The centre-half will provide much-needed cover to a depleted Latics defence, with captain David Wheater the only central defender available for selection after injuries to both Jamie Stott and Tomas Egert.
Piergianni was a crucial part of the Salford squad which won promotion to the EFL last season, scoring 11 goals in 48 National League appearances and the second in the club’s 3-0 play-off final win over AFC Fylde.
“Carl is the type of player and character that will help us immensely,” said Oldham head coach Dino Maamria. “A solid defender who puts his body on the line and is also a leader. His characteristics will fit in well to the culture we are trying to implement and I’m sure he will play a big part in helping us climb up the table.”
Meanwhile, Chris Eagles’ Latics contract has been terminated by mutual consent.
