JANUARY 6: Footballer George Graham plays for Manchester United against his former club Arsenal at their home ground Highbury.
It wasn’t a happy return for the Scottish midfielder who’d signed for the Red Devils that season. United lost 3-1 with their solitary goal coming from Brian Kidd.
It wasn’t a vintage season for United either. They finished 18th in the league and manager Frank O’Farrell was sacked in December 1972 to be replaced by former Scotland boss Tommy Docherty.
Graham ended up making 43 league appearances for United, scoring two goals, before moving on to Portsmouth in 1974.
