MAN ARMED WITH MEAT CLEAVER IN SCHOOL GROUNDS
‘LOCKDOWN’ DRAMA AS INCIDENT FILMED
A SCHOOL was said to have gone into lockdown after a man brandishing a meat cleaver was seen pacing up and down outside.
Terrifying footage shows the moment he walked up and down outside the school canteen in Wythenshawe.
The incident was filmed at Newall Green High School in Wythenshawe yesterday afternoon.
A parent claimed the school was ‘put on lockdown’ during the incident.
Officers rushed to the Greenbrow Road site at around 1.20pm following reports a man with a blade was ‘making threats.’
It is understood an arrest has been made, a police spokeswoman said.
The parent of a child at the school said: “My son rang me from school.
“I managed to speak to the deputy head.
“She said they were all a bit scared. He didn’t manage to get inside the school.
“He was outside the canteen.
“They were all safe. The school was on lockdown. He was arrested.”
The parent’s child watched the drama unfold before his eyes while he was in the canteen.
Officers are understood to have ‘chased’ the man with the machete before detaining him.
A spokeswoman for GMP said: “We have got reports of a man with a meat cleaver making threats at around 1.20pm. Nobody was injured.”
She said an arrest is believed to have been made.
The school and Manchester council have been contacted for comment.
