Maguire: We need to be consistent to get in top four

Manchester Evening News - - UNITED -

HARRY Maguire believes inconsistency has been United’s biggest problem this season.

The Reds were back at their best over the weekend as goals from Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood saw them thrash Norwich at Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were much improved in their performance on Saturday afternoon and provided the perfect response to a week which had seen them draw with Wolves before losing to City.

Victory lifted United up to fifth in the Premier League and just five points behind Chelsea in the race for a top-four finish this season. Maguire knows a good run of results could be crucial in securing Champions League football this season, but acknowledges that consistent positive performances are vital.

“Our problem has been inconsistency,” he told reporters after victory against Norwich.

“We have played two good games and one bad game and it has not been good enough in terms of that. We are not getting carried away. It was a good performance, clean sheet, win but we have to go again on Wednesday and get another good result. Like I said, if we put a few wins together on the bounce we will have every chance (of a top-four finish).”
