Visual arts / The Manchester Open 2020

After a call-out for submission­s last summer, the inaugural Manchester Open makes its hugely-anticipate­d debut at HOME this weekend. Featuring over 500 artworks – including paintings, prints, photograph­y, sculpture, performanc­e and more - the exhibition sees establishe­d artists sitting alongside first-time exhibitors in a diverse and democratic celebratio­n of Mancunian art talent.

Clubbing / Playtime – In Aid of Wood Street Mission

DJs from some of Manchester’s finest clubnights – Dance Yrself Clean, Micron, Mixing Mates and more – are joining forces for this special fundraisin­g party in aid of Wood Street Mission, supporting local children living in poverty. Entry is free, but revellers are asked to bring much-needed essentials for donation (children’s clothes, toiletries, toys, books, bedding etc).

Music / Whyte Horses

Mysterious Manc collective Whyte Horses – led by Dom Thomas, the founder of Finders Keepers records – have received huge praise for their intoxicati­ng blend of indie-psych, cosmic folk and retro French pop. Not exactly renowned for their live activity (they’ve only played a handful of shows since they formed in 2015), the band’s appearance at RNCM this weekend is an absolute must-see.

Music / Maggie’s at the Christie Fundraiser
