School closed after roof fire
A PRIMARY school was closed this week after a fire broke out in the roof.
Three fire engines were scrambled to the scene at Christ Church Primary School in Chadderton.
The blaze broke out at 10am on Wednesday.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said a roof light caught fire.
It then spread to the roof of the single storey building.
He said: “Three crews from Blackley, Oldham and Chadderton were called to a fire on Crawley Way in Chadderton.
“The fire involved a roof light then the roof of a single storey building.
“Crews were quickly on the scene and extinguished the fire.
“They were at the scene for one and a half hours.”
The spokesman confirmed that the school was evacuated and remained closed.
A spokesperson for the school said it would remain closed until at least the end of this week.
