Chong to walk after bond with Ole sours

- By JOE BRAY

TAHITH Chong is poised to leave United at the end of the season after his agent indicated his relationship with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has broken down.

The 20-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, and has been linked with Juventus and Inter Milan.

It has been reported that the Dutch youth international could be in line for a five-year deal at either Italian side worth around £50,000-per-week.

United have tried to extend Chong’s current contract at Old Trafford, but to no avail. Now, comments from his agent, Erkan Alkan, suggest Solskjaer’s handling of the player is behind his decision to look elsewhere.

Speaking to Voetbal International , Alkan said: “He [Solskjaer] has different views on Tahith than the leadership.

“A coach thinks about himself, I think about my player. He has come to a point where he feels that he is not going any further. Then it’s time to look further.”

Solskjaer has spoken about Chong’s contract situation, saying a ‘very good’ offer is on the table and it was up to the player to sign.

Chong has played just 24 minutes of Premier League action this season, and hasn’t featured since starting the FA Cup third round draw at Wolves.

Meanwhile, United are set to recall George Tanner from a loan spell with League Two Morecambe, with a view to sending him out again to a different club.

Tanner has started 29 games in all competition for League Two’s basement boys this season, but is being recalled by United and is set to head out on loan to a different club in the fourth tier.
