Centurions hope to maintain perfect record against York

- By TOM BRAMWELL

LEIGH entertain York on Sunday afternoon as they look to maintain their 100 per cent start to the Betfred Championship season.

Victories against Dewsbury and Sheffield Eagles have left John Duffy’s side sitting atop the second tier table and the Centurions will have a point to prove against the City Knights, having found themselves on the wrong side of two one-point defeats when the two sides met in 2019.

Jarrod Sammut and Lewis Bienek keep their spots in Duffy’s 21-man squad after making their debuts against the Eagles and the Leigh boss has pretty much a full-strength roster to choose from.

Swinton travel to Batley Bulldogs for what will be only their second match of the season.

The home clash with Dewsbury scheduled for last weekend was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch, meaning the Lions have yet to taste action in front of their own fans this season.

Oldham are on the road again, taking on Whitehaven in the late Sunday afternoon slot broadcast on the OuRLeague app.

Matt Diskin’s side have been boosted by a dual-registration agreement with Super League side Wakefield Trinity. It has immediately been utilised, with young centre Jack Worthington going straight into contention to feature in Cumbria.

Rochdale’s Challenge Cup Third Round clash with amateur side York Acorn - postponed last week - will take place at Salford’s AJ Bell Stadium home tomorrow afternoon.

Hornets boss Matt Calland has named a full-strength squad for the tie, with former Super League players Sean Penkywicz, Jack Higginson and Sam Hopkins all in line to play.
