Police car crash suspect released under investigation
A MAN arrested after a crash in which two police officers were injured has been released from custody.
The officers were taken to hospital - one with serious injuries - after their liveried BMW collided with a stolen green Mini Countryman before plunging down a ditch in Pendleton, Salford, on Friday night.
A 20-year-old man arrested in connection with the collision has been released under investigation.
Police spotted the Mini, which had previously been reported stolen and was driving around the Pendleton area on false plates, at around 9.30pm on Friday.
After the Mini failed to stop for police, a short pursuit took place. The Mini went the wrong way around Pendleton Island and continued to drive onto Broad Street in the wrong direction before colliding with a second police car.
The police driver suffered a suspected broken arm and the passenger sustained whiplash. Both have since been released from hospital.
An injured trainee policeman dragged himself from the wreckage of the police car before chasing down a suspect.
A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and dangerous driving nearby.
He was further arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and aggravated vehicle taking without consent. He was taken to custody and questioned by police before being released under investigation.
