Maamria says Latics are due some good fortune

- FOOTBALL By ALI RAMPLING @MENSports

OLDHAM head coach Dino Maamria was left ruing Gevaro Nepomuceno’s missed injurytime opportunity as Latics were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Forest Green Rovers on Saturday.

Maamria’s side had led through Nepomuceno’s strike from the edge of the area after 55 minutes, before conceding with two minutes of normal time remaining via a curling George Williams shot from distance.

Nepomuceno was put clean through by Mohammed Maouche in the 95th minute, but the ball got stuck under the Latics winger’s feet as he rounded Forest Green goalkeeper Lewis Thomas.

Speaking at full-time, Maamria said: “It’s unbelievable how we’ve ended up not winning that game with Gevaro’s chance.

“Brilliant build-up play, great ball from Maouche. Gevaro made the right decision to go past the keeper. The ball just didn’t bounce right for him and that probably sums up our season.

“Those little things go against us and they’re not going our way at the moment. Hopefully with a bit more positivity from everybody we’ll get those things falling for us.”

Despite not taking all three points at the death, Maamria was pleased with the response following the midweek 5-1 loss at Exeter.

“We bounced back well today. I thought we were solid throughout the game, we were unlucky to only score one.

“With their goal you can’t do a lot about that when you put the ball in the top corner from 25 yards. We dust ourselves off and next week we’ll be better and stronger for it.”
