Nurse lucy is a true champ says boxing star

-

A HERO nurse who helped a pensioner terrified he had coronavirus has been given free car repairs and praise from Anthony Joshua.

Lucy Duncan was driving home after a 12-hour shift at Wigan Infirmary when the man’s car bumped into hers.

The 24-year-old followed the vehicle and the driver grabbed Lucy’s arm in desperation, telling her he feared he had coronavirus.

Lucy, a mental health nurse, called an ambulance and followed him to hospital in her car.

She waited with the 73-year-old man in hospital for five hours, comforting him and holding his hand.

Sadly, the man passed away in the early hours of the morning last Saturday.

Lucy is now living in selfisolation from her family in Atherton as a precaution.

Lucy has since appeared on BBC Breakfast where she discovered a local Fiat garage took her car away for repairs free of charge. The garage, Body Shop Golbourne, has also given her a replacement Fiat 500X to borrow free of charge until her car is fixed. Boxing champ Joshua also sent praise to Lucy via a video message on the programme.

He said: “You showed compassion and bravery, stay safe, what you guys are doing in the NHS is unbelievable, you are the unsung heroes.”

Lucy said she has been ‘overwhelmed’ by the response on social media.

She told the M.E.N: “I gave it a wipe down and they are now fixing it at the Fiat garage.

“Anthony Joshua – he is just beautiful. I couldn’t believe it. I am overwhelmed. I am lost for words, it is crazy taking it all in.”
