Attacks on cats ‘not human’

-

POLICE have issued an appeal after one cat died and another was left with ‘life-changing injuries’ after being maimed.

The beloved pets were intentionally attacked in recent days around May Street and Edge Green Lane in Golborne, Wigan.

Linda Smith had to make the harrowing decision to have her cat Tinkerbell put down due to the horrific extent of her injuries.

She discovered the animal in a distressed state in her back garden last Saturday.

“She was in a terrible way,” Ms Smith said. “She had a smashed hip and had been stabbed through the bladder.

“It looked like whoever hurt her had placed her where she was because there was not a drip of blood anywhere.”

Ms Smith said she has been struggling to eat and sleep since the despicable attack.

Another two of her cats are currently missing, and she fears they may also have been hurt.

One is a small black female, the other a large white male with blue eyes and streaks in his tail.

“They were our lives,” she explained. “I dread to think about what Tinkerbell went through.

“Someone must know who did this.”

Meanwhile, Dawn Howard’s cat, Simba, was attacked on Tuesday evening.

After rushing the animal to the vet, Ms Howard and her family were told it would need to have its leg amputated.

“It was horrific,” she said. “Her leg was completely severed off.

“Whoever has done this is not human. You cannot have a heart and hurt an animal in such a barbaric manner.”

“They need to be caught to stop it happening again.”

Police are urging anyone with CCTV or information about the attacks to get in touch by contacting 101 quoting log number 375 of 01/04/2020.
