NEWSAGENTS and paper deliverers across Greater Manchester are working through the coronavirus pandemic to continue bringing accurate local news to readers.

Government announcements which led to the closure of non-essential retailers meant that newsagents and corner shops became an even more vital service in their communities.

It is part of the daily routine for many of our readers to be able to pick up a newspaper in the morning.

But, with the elderly and vulnerable often now self-isolating in their homes, the traditional home delivery service is also coming into its own. Across the country, local newsagents are playing a vital role in supplying families with essential items as well as informing communities by delivering local news to their doorsteps. Newsagent David Lomas, of Lomas News, Parr Lane, Bury is still serving the community.

With so many customers unable to come out of their homes, David has carried on delivering newspapers to all his regular customers daily as well as taking on a lots of new deliveries.

He now has more than 300 homes on the round.

The Federation of Independent Retailers has worked with the News Media Association, which represents local and national newspapers, to create a letter for deliverers to carry with them.

It can be shown to the relevant authorities if asked whether their journey is essential.

And on top of that, the M.E.N. has fantastic 40 per cent off deal.
