‘Disgusting’ fly-tippers strike at beauty spot
FLY-TIPPERS left a huge pile of rubbish at a beauty spot.
Gas cylinders, plastic boxes and chairs were found outside Fletcher Moss Park in Didsbury by a dog walker.
Residents branded the fly-tipping ‘disgusting’ especially considering tips across Greater Manchester re-opened at the weekend.
Rochdale, Tameside, Salford and Wigan councils all reported increases in fly-tipping in the weeks since the coronavirus pandemic hit the UK.
On Tuesday, it was announced that green recycling bin collections will restart in Manchester next week after being cancelled for almost a month.
Bosses confirmed that from Monday, May 11, bins will be taken every two weeks - on the same day as grey bins for non-recyclable waste. Dozens of people took to Facebook to condemn the actions of the fly-tipping at Fletcher Moss, which has been reported to Manchester council.
One person wrote: “Unbelievable. What is wrong with people?”
Another said: “There is no excuse for this, the tip has been open for a week now.”
Coun Rabnawaz Akbar, executive member for neighbourhoods, said: “This brazen fly-tipping incident is an insult to residents who love their local park and take great joy in exercising there.” He added: “I urge anybody who sees a fly-tip in their neighbourhood to please contact us with the details as soon as possible, via www. manchester.gov.uk/flytipping, so that we can take action.”
