Silkmen lose seven points

- By CONNOR O’NEILL

MACCLESFIELD Town have confirmed that they have been hit with an immediate sevenpoint deduction.

The deduction leaves them three points off the bottom of Sky Bet League Two and comes after they admitted two misconduct charges relating to an unfulfilled fixture against Plymouth on December 21 and non-payment of players in February.

The club confirmed yesterday that an Independent Disciplinary Hearing had applied an immediate four-point deduction with a further two points suspended, and three suspended points relating to a previous charge have also been triggered.

The financially-troubled club have been blighted by off-thefield issues over the past year and just last week confirmed that they had placed all players and most staff on furlough.

The Moss Rose club said the move was to protect its ‘longterm viability’ and that all affected employees will have their salaries made up to the full amount.

A ‘skeleton’ office staff operation has continued to work at Moss Rose so the club can continue to function, but there are now concerns that the club might not be able to survive the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The EFL is currently indefinitely suspended due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

And Andy Worth, chairman of the Silkmen Supporters Trust, says the ongoing lack of gate receipt revenue could have grave implications.

“We are very concerned. We had five home games left, they have gone, there is no income coming in,” he said.
