‘Drain’ Di Maria should take a close look at Serg across town

- By ELLIOTT JACKSON

GARY Neville has hit out at Angel di Maria’s performances for United and insisted the winger should have taken a leaf out of City star Sergio Aguero’s book.

Di Maria arrived at Old Trafford from Real Madrid in 2014 in a move that brought much excitement to supporters.

However, after a decent start in the Premier League, Di Maria’s form plummeted after an attempted burglary at his house.

The Argentine then left the following summer to join Paris Saint-Germain in a deal that left a bitter taste in the mouths of many United fans.

That was only made worse after his wife, Jorgelina Cardoso described Manchester as ‘horrible’ and admitted Di Maria only joined the club due to the finances involved.

“I remember Angel coming up and saying, ‘an offer from Manchester United has come in. Maybe we’ll be a little more financially secure’,” Cardoso said to Los angeles de la manana.

Neville has not held back with his criticism of Di Maria’s performances, while adding he should have taken note of how fellow Argentines Aguero and Pablo Zabaleta adapted to life in Manchester.

“All I would say is, we hear these stories from time to time where a player has played like a drain, like Di Maria did at United,” Neville told Sky Sports’ The Football Show.

“He was awful and I had high expectations and excitement when he came to the club thinking we were signing a top player. He was never interested from day one.

“What he needs to do is look across the road at Sergio Aguero, his Argentinian compatriot or Pablo Zabaleta, who have done alright in Manchester and haven’t been in a rush to leave.”
