Spitting lout jailed
A MAN spat at a police officer and a security guard, before telling them he had coronavirus - and that he ‘hoped they died from it’.
Jamie McAdam, 31, was slammed by a judge for his sickening behaviour.
“It’s difficult to think of a more appalling and disgusting way to behave... in the midst of the coronavirus crisis,” he was told.
Manchester Crown Court heard that on April 27, McAdam, who is homeless, became ‘hysterical’ at a hotel in Fallowfield.
He had been given a place to stay at The Rams Lodge on Wilmslow Road, which had been set up as a homeless shelter.
McAdam was seen screaming and shouting after he received the news his sister was in intensive care.
A security guard attempted to assist McAdam, who spat in his face and said: “I’ve got coronavirus, I hope you die from it.”
His lawyer said he never had coronavirus symptoms and hadn’t tested positive. McAdam’s tirade of abuse continued when police arrived.
He spat at an officer, made threats and urinated on himself in a police van.
McAdam, of no fixed address, was sentenced to 13 months in prison having pleaded guilty to common assault of an emergency worker, assault and criminal damage.
Howard Bernstein, defending, said: “He asks me to inform the court how sorry he is for behaving in this way.”
Judge Suzanne Goddard QC told McAdam: “Your behaviour was absolutely disgusting and it was frightening for all those involved.”
