A MUM who lost her child in a freak accident has died following gastric bypass complications.

Jenni Jones was just 42 when she died, leaving behind three daughters.

Her death is the second tragedy to hit the family after her six-year-old son accidentally hanged himself while playing with a rope in 2007.

The former nail technician, from Bury, had visited doctors just 10 days before her death complaining of stomach ache.

A scan revealed she had a cystic ulcer in her stomach which had ruptured her bowel. Following an operation, Jenni was put into an induced coma to allow her body to heal.

After being told the operation had been successful, her daughter Adrianne believed it wouldn’t be long until her mother could return home.

But she received a call on April 17 saying she had been put onto endof-life care.

Adrianne, 22, said: “My godmother works on the ward where she was so she managed to FaceTime us while she was in the coma to say our goodbyes.

“If they managed to bring her back, she would have had five bleeds on the brain.

“She didn’t look well but I didn’t think it was that serious.”

Jenni died after developing sepsis caused by an infection in her ruptured bowel. The sepsis led to her kidneys shutting down as well as multiple organ failure.

Doctors said the stomach ulcer was caused by complications arisen from a gastric bypass surgery, which Jenni received for weight loss around seven years ago.

Adrianne, who has 18-year-old twin sisters Tionne and Danica, said her mother had also battled with alcohol following the tragic death of son Mason.

He died after playing a game of hangman while using the rope as a swing as he played with his sisters.

The rope had been tied around a banister on stairs leading up to an attic play room.

It was around his neck when he was strangled and died of asphyxiation on July 13, 2007.

Adrianne, who was nine at the time, said her mum was never the same after losing little Mason.

She said: “When we lost our brother, she lost a part of herself.

“There was a lot of sadness and the older we got the longer it had been without him there.

“Every time she had a drink at night, she would always say she wanted to be with her son.

“When she started with the alcohol, she fell away.

“Before that, she was so loving and had a massive heart. She would have done anything for anyone.”

Adrianne, who works as a supervisor at The Range, added: “When she was texting me in hospital, it wasn’t making sense. Doctors said it might have been the sepsis making her hallucinate. It doesn’t quite feel real at the moment because I haven’t been able to see her and I’ve been living away for a few years.”
