Lord hits back as Angel’s wife slams city of Manchester

- By DOMINIC BOOTH

ONE of Andy Burnham’s key advisors has hit back at the wife of former United player Angel Di Maria over her comments about the city.

Sacha Lord, who works alongside the region’s mayor Burnham and also co-founded the city’s famed Warehouse Project club nights, has slammed Jorgelina Cardoso.

It comes after Di Maria’s wife called Manchester ‘s---’ and ‘horrible’ in a long rant against the city, where she spent a year following he husband’s flopped spell as a United player following a £59.7m transfer from Real Madrid in the summer of 2014.

“I didn’t like anything about it, not a thing,” she said about the city. “The women are all pasty-faced and white, prim and proper - weird. You’re walking down the street and you don’t know if they’re going to kill you or what.

“The food’s disgusting. All the girls are all dolled up to the nines, perfectly made-up and there’s me with my hair in a bun and with no make-up on.”

The Argentina international, who had been man of the match in the 2014 Champions League final, became the most expensive British transfer when moving to Louis van Gaal’s United.

But after a promising start, Di Maria’s form tailed off as he quickly became unsettled in the north west and he left for Paris Saint-Germain in 2015. It was widely reported that Di Maria and his wife didn’t like Manchester - and that has now become very clear.

Lord, Manchester’s Night Time Economy Adviser and a United fan, has responded in brutal fashion.

“I read Jorgelina’s comments regarding Manchester and her attack on our culture and women,” he said.

“Before I comment on that particular bit, I do agree with her on one point. Having been a Man United supporter all my life, I also found that period quite depressing.

“Her husband was bought for almost £60m and sold a year later for £44m and was undoubtedly one of Man United’s biggest flops.

“Having said that, at least he showed continuity, by returning to Old Trafford, playing for PSG, but again leaving a loser.

“As for women always being dolled up, it may have helped if she had ventured out of the leafy suburbs of Alderley Edge at some point during that period.

“As for our food, we have many outstanding restaurants across the whole of our city region.

“I can only think her taste buds have been tarnished by how sour and bitter she actually is.

“Having looked at a photo of her this morning, I think she would quite suit a Greggs sausage roll, or a good pie chips and gravy, as opposed to the higher end culinary offerings.

“As for our culture, when I think of Manchester, I think of The Industrial Revolution, The Suffragettes, The Co-Op movement, Marx and Engels, The Peterloo Massacre, the computer, splitting the atom, Graphene, Alan Turing, textiles, canals, railways, football and music.”
