Man suffers head injury in brutal attack at shops
A MAN was taken to hospital with a head injury after a ‘violent disturbance’ in broad daylight outside a shop.
Police were called to reports of a disturbance on Mersey Bank Avenue, near to the Mersey Bank Convenience Store in Chorlton, at around 8.40am yesterday.
A 49-year-old man was taken to hospital with a head injury.
He has since been discharged, GMP said. A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault.
Enquiries into the ‘isolated incident’ are ongoing.
Det Insp Chris Maddocks, of GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: “This was a violent disturbance which has resulted in a man being injured.
“I would like to reassure the public that this appears to be an isolated incident which is being investigated thoroughly. Residents in the area may see increased police patrols in the area while our officers complete their enquires.
“This incident happened in broad daylight and I am confident that there may be a number of witnesses who may be able assist officers with their investigation. If you have any information at all, please get in contact with police.”
A police cordon remained in place at the scene.
Yesterday morning, residents described a ‘huge police presence’ on Mersey Bank Avenue.
Forensic officers were spotted placing evidence markers on the road in the area.
