Pal Clark had key role in Wolves’ Inglis coup

- By TOM BRAMWELL

GREG Inglis has revealed Warrington forward Jason Clark played a significant role in convincing the former NRL superstar to join the Wolves next season.

The pair played together at South Sydney Rabbitohs between 2011 and the end of the 2018 NRL season, when Clark made the move to the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

And Inglis says it was a conversation with his ‘best mate’ Clark that got the ball rolling on his sensational return from retirement.

“I got a phone call from my best mate Jason Clark who’s over there with you guys already,” Inglis told the Wolves club website.

“We were just having a general chit chat when we spoke about the idea. I think anyone that knows Jason knows what he’s about - what you see is what you get.

“He’s pure class, he doesn’t expect anything in return, he does things out of the goodness of his heart.

“He doesn’t want any recognition for anything and since day one when I went to Souths we just hit it off and have been best mates since.

“I just had a chat with him and he was very honest which he always is about the club and the travel and how he’s gotten used to it.

“I speak very highly of Jason as I respect the man he is.”

Clark’s current deal with Wire expires at the end of the season, so it remains to be seen whether he will reunite with Inglis.

But Inglis, a former Queensland captain, says he’s excited to get going with Warrington and resume a career that was initially brought to an end just over 12 months ago.

“It’s something I want to do and I’m looking forward to it,” he added.

“To get the opportunity to live in the UK, to play for such a powerhouse club that I believe is on the rise is something I’m looking forward to. Hopefully I can add value to the team.”

Meanwhile, the RFL has confirmed that scenarios are being explored that will see the Betfred Women’s Super League operated on a shortened season beginning in August or September, depending on government advice.

The schedule would include the Challenge Cup and aim for a Grand

Final no later than November. “The current situation is obviously frustrating for everyone who has contributed to the development of the BWSL since it was launched in 2016, and to women’s and girls’ Rugby League,” said BWSL general manager Thomas Brindle.

“But we have to recognise the priority of public health, while doing all we can to maintain that momentum - and we continue to work towards a rescheduled BWSL and also the Championship, League 1 and the Coral Women’s Challenge Cup.”
