Reds keeper agrees to extend Blades loan deal

UNITED TO LET HENDERSON FINISH SEASON AT BLADES

- By ELLIOTT JACKSON

UNITED have agreed to let Dean Henderson stay at Sheffield United until the end of the season.

The Reds keeper has spent the past two seasons on loan with the Blades, earning plenty of plaudits along the way.

His deal expires on June 30, and with both clubs fighting it out for a Champions League spot, there had been suggestions United may not let him extend his stay until the end of the campaign.

But Blades boss Chris Wilder has confirmed he held talks with Ole

Gunnar Solskjaer over the weekend and United have agreed to let Henderson see out the season with his loan club.

And he is also keen to keep hold of the 23-year-old for a third season, although it is believed United want him back to put pressure on David de Gea.

“I spoke to Ole,” said Wilder. “I thanked him for his co-operation with Dean and we are in the process of finalising Dean staying with us until the end of the season.

“I have got to say Ole was brilliant, as he always is, and was very pro Dean staying and delighted with what Dean’s done for us and what we’ve done for him as well. It can’t be understated the opportunity we’ve given him to play Premier League football and we’ve been delighted with him.”

On the prospect of Henderson returning for a third loan spell next season, Wilder said: “We had initial early conversations, of course we would. We would be open to Dean coming back but we have got huge respect for Man United and he’s Man United player, so they’ll make that decision with what is best for themselves in conjunction with Dean.

“If there’s an opportunity we’d love to take that up.”
