Five-star United are firing on all cylinders as Mason sets tone

AS A FELLOW United academy graduate, Marcus Rashford is keen not to put too much pressure on Mason Greenwood, but admits the teenager is capable of doing things that no other player in the squad can do.

Greenwood took his tally to 15 for the season with two stunning strikes in the 5-2 win over Bournemouth, one with his right foot and one with his left, while Rashford also netted in another thrilling attacking display. It was Greenwood’s double that stole the show, particularly with the power he achieved with both goals, of separate feet – and Rashford is aware just how big a talent the 18-year-old is.

“Left foot, right foot, he can finish, both sides are comfortable for him, but I wouldn’t put too much emphasis on him,” Rashford told BT Sport.

“I’d just let him play his football and let him do what he does.

“He scores goals where other people can’t score goals and it’s a big bonus for us to have him in the squad.” There was also a goal for Anthony Martial in the five-star show at Old Trafford, taking the tally for United’s front three to 55 for the season.

Martial and Rashford lead the way on 20, but the latter insists there is no competition between the forwards to end the campaign as top scorer.

“For us it doesn’t really matter who scores as long as someone’s scoring and putting the points on the

table,” said Rashford. “Mason has been on fire, Anthony has been on fire, it’s always positive for teams when the forwards are scoring.

“They’ve been brilliant all season so it’s important now to press on until the end of the season.”

The victory over Bournemouth was a third straight Premier League win for United and made it 16 games unbeaten.

It was the kind of all-action, endto-end display that usually has a full house at Old Trafford gripped, but while Rashford would rather there were fans there to glory in such a performance, he was still delighted to be starring on home turf once again. “It’s enjoyable when you win games, but to be playing at Old Trafford week in and week out is an amazing feeling, the lads enjoyed it today and these are the types of performance we want to be putting in, we can get better defensively but it’s an exciting time,” he said.
