YOUNGSTERS have been joined at a nursery by some new classmates – four chickens.

Tots returned to Kidzrus in Salford to find their new feathered friends – Matilda, Boris, Rainbow, and Quarantina – as the nursery has been transformed into a ‘forest school’.

A Scandinavian import, forest schools were introduced to the UK 25 years ago, but have seen a rise in popularity during the last 10 years.

Their aim is to get children outdoors and in touch with nature, developing skills in problem solving and teamwork.
