Back trouble for United as Lindelof hit by injury

- By RICHARD FAY

OLE Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Victor Lindelof was substituted during United’s win over Bournemouth on Saturday due to a back injury.

The Reds extended their unbeaten run to 16 matches across all competitions as a brace from Mason Greenwood inspired his side to a 5-2 win at Old Trafford.

But it wasn’t all good news after a shaky defensive display.

United were looking to win four consecutive home league games without conceding for the first time since a run of six ending in October 2017, but looked vulnerable at the back as Junior Stanislas pounced on mistakes from Harry Maguire and David de Gea to give his side the lead early on.

The Reds eventually turned the game on its head to lead 3-1 at half-time, before Sweden international Lindelof was replace by Eric Bailly.

The substitute conceded a penalty within two minutes of the restart for a handball in the box, and Solskjaer has revealed he was forced into the change.

“He (Lindelof) struggled with his back but hopefully won’t be too bad,” Solskjaer said.

The injury was an obvious negative despite the fine win over the weekend, but the United manager was keen to concentrate on the positives.

He added: “Very, very happy with the energy in the team and the goals we scored. I think that was a game for the fans.

“That is definitely one the Stretford End would have enjoyed.

“They are on the same team and working towards one common goal. That is one of the positive things about the forwards they are good friends and keep challenging each other.”
