Fears over massage parlour in shopping area
CONCERNS have been raised over a massage parlour which promises clients an ‘unforgettable time’ with masseuses selected for their ‘stunning good looks’ and ‘talent for relaxation’.
Named after the goddess of love, Venus Massage is based in the centre of Great Moor, in Stockport.
But its presence in the popular shopping area of Buxton Road has been the source of some consternation among residents - not least because of its proximity to a local primary school. The issue was brought up by Coun Mark Weldon at a meeting of the Stepping Hill Area Committee. “There are other places in Stockport where it would be less obvious and less objectionable,” he said.
He added that the premises’ signage - depicting ‘silhouettes of young ladies’ - was not suitable, describing it as ‘in your face’.
“It doesn’t seem to be catering for people with sports injuries, it seems to be catering to a different clientele,” he said.
“I have no objection to the legal operation of a business, but the impact on the local area and how people think their area is portrayed.”
Coun Grace Baynham said she had similar misgivings.
The committee largely agreed on a three-part resolution which involved the council investigating whether there had been any unauthorised advertising, raising concerns over the parlour’s location at director level and developing a system that would highlight ‘potentially sensitive’ planning applications to local councillors.
Venus Massage has been contacted for comment.
