United talks with keeper

- EXCLUSIVE BY SAMUEL LUCKHURST

UNITED are yet to decide on Dean Henderson’s future next season after his loan with Sheffield United ended.

The M.E.N. understands Henderson, 23, is due to go on holiday this week and discussions are ongoing over his immediate future, with United prepared to offer Henderson an improved contract.

United cannot register Henderson for their Europa League squad ahead of the competition’s resumption next month.

Henderson started 36 times for the Blades and finished joint-third in the Premier League clean sheets table on 13 the same amount as David de Gea - as Sheffield United finished an impressive ninth in their first season back in the top flight for 12 years.

A source close to Henderson told the M.E.N. he is ‘desperate’ to play for United but if they cannot assure him of a first-team place he will seek a move elsewhere.

Henderson is yet to make his debut for United and is contracted to the club until 2022, with the option of an additional year.

The M.E.N. revealed last week Chelsea are prepared to more than double Henderson’s wages. Henderson currently earns around £70,000 a week but Sheffield United paid the majority of his salary during his Premier League loan and Chelsea are ready to entice him with £170,000-a-week wages.

Solskjaer has repeatedly insisted Henderson will become a future first-choice goalkeeper at United but the club finalised a four-year deal with De Gea in September and Sergio Romero’s contract runs out next year.

The M.E.N. revealed in January Henderson has no intention of just competing with De Gea, and Romero, 33, recently changed agents.

His representatives have already started whipping up interest in the Argentinian now the summer window is open.
